Community Action Events
Throughout the year, MTPRC works on several community acton events around Middle Tennessee. We also put together action events, such as our annual HayDays, the Donelson Fence Project, and our Made In The Shade Day. You can read more about these events below.

Hay Day 2011
MTPRC held our 3rd Annual HayDay on Saturday December 10th. We have been working non-stop on follow up with many of the dogs we met:
There was Lady, a purebred german shepherd penned 24/7. Her owner (legally blind) realized he could not care for her in theway needed so surrendered her to Marianne Whitaker and Celina with SPCA of Middle Tennessee, where she is now being fostered...
There were the 2 tiny pit puppies that Nashville Pitte helped with...
The German Shepherd / Husky who was advertised for sale that Shelley Madison (along with several others) is helping...
Maggie Odle and Cassie Berman even helped a gentleman with chickens and his pig!
All told, MTPRC volunteers helped around 45 dogs, several cats, chickens and the above mentioned pig.
Thank you to the following people who all made HayDay a success:
Nicole Young and John Partipilo at The Tennessean, Newschannel 5, Kim Kmiec, Kelly Schwartz, Melanie & John Cochran, Susan & Greg Hammond, Scott Atkinson, Tina Morse, Kym & Dave Colella, Kelly Tipler, Barbara McCarthy, Maggie Odle, Cassie Berman, Anjie Crow, Lance Hoff, Leighann McCullum, Karen & Barry Harris, Katheryne Farrimond, Lindsay Mihalcik, Natalie Corwin, Shelley Rutkowski, Tracy Harton, Shelley Madison, Kim Roberts, Steve Cornelius, Ben Scott, Suzanne McDermott, Anna Henley, Karin & Michael Villanova (for all their pre HayDay efforts in Spring Hill), Rachel Walden, Christy Edison, Glenn Weiss, Allison Yonker, Alice Tessma, Jennifer Garmany, Helen Braley-Newman, Justin Middleton, Jana Mandes, Penny & Brian Singer and Timm Biery.

Made In The Shade Day 2011
On June 25th, MTPRC hosted our 1st Annual "Made In The Shade" Day event (MITS). Through generous donations and volunteer efforts we were able to distribute and assemble free tarps, bungee cords, dog houses, hay, wood chips, plastic water buckets, dog toys, and heat advisory fliers to owners of penned and chained dogs in Nashville.
It takes a lot of guts to do what MTPRC volunteers did! The dogs we saw and situations we encountered were, at best, just within the law and at worst, terrible violations of the law. Efforts were made to help every dog encountered, and the worst situations were reported to Metro Animal Control.
We're continuing to follow-up with MAC and pet owners we met who were receptive to our help. We're also planning to go out again in hopes of getting in touch with those we were unable to visit that day.
Thank you to the following people who personally donated their time and/or money: Caroline and Gypsy Carns, Robert Chatham, Jen Blumenthal, Maryglenn McCombs, Sandra McDonald, Maggie and Mike Music, Anna Henely, Tonya Davidson, Steve Cornelius, Amber and Ben Scott, Wendi Powell, Pam Lehman, Beth Donaghey, Kelly Tipler, Rebecca Burcham, Melanie and John Cochran, Susan Heard, Ruth Packett, Glenda Shepherd, Penny and Brian Singer, and Timm Biery.

Hay Day 2010
MTPRC held two HayDays this past December. MTPRC volunteers went out into the community and handed out free hay, blankets and food to domestic pets living outside in Middle Tennessee. HayDay is a great way of getting into the community and offering a helping hand to those in need.

By doing HayDay, MTPRC aims to raise awareness of the plight of many domestic pets in Middle Tennessee who live outside year round with limited shelter and protection from the elements.
We also work hard to educate owners on responsible pet ownership. Many times, emotional and sometime financial support is what the pet owners need and that is what we work hard to try to provide. We want to keep pets with their owners and show how rewarding the relationship can be.
We send a big THANK YOU out to all everyone who volunteered and those who worked behind the scenes to make our two 2010 HayDays successful.
Donelson Fence Project
This project began with an idea back in December 2009, when we delivered hay for HAY DAY to a house in Donelson. At that time, we were introduced to two dogs - Cuddles and Nikki. Cuddles, a vocal but frightened Chow was living chained to a tree in the front yard with a large metal chain. Nikki, a sweet and energetic pointer was living tied to a small back porch. After seeing this, we thought that if we could build a fence for Cuddles and Nikki, they would no longer have to live their lives on a chain.
It seemed like a great idea, but without the resources or finances, we were unsure whether it would occur. After a shaky start, the project gradually started to come together due to the massive outpouring of kindness and generosity from a number of local people.
Elizabeth Chauncey found a fence that would be donated, and brought together an army of volunteers from East Can to take it down, including MaryAlice Wood, Micky Bernal, and Jeanette Bebout. The very helpful Jodi and Jim Bloodgood kindly picked up the disassembled fence, loaded it into their truck, and drove it across town to deliver it. Taffy Marsh and her crew picked up a large solid wood dog house (donated by Janis Tilton) and brought it to the site, where it would be used for Cuddles' new house. Helen Newman, Annette Barkley, Kathy Chiavola, Susan Gennoe and Julie Farris donated much needed money to pay for supplies. Mary Gay White donated enough bags of concrete to build a skyscraper! Kim Kmiec let us have her cash laden Home Dept Gift card to pay for the renting of an auger to dig the post holes. Finally, the terrific team that was Tonya and Darrick Davidson, Chris Keenan, Rob and Victoria Hogan, Jenna and Joey Krabacher, Craig Parnell, and Justin Davidson each gave up several of their weekends to rebuild the fence in Donelson. These volunteers brought tools, supplies, and lots of man power to this huge project, proving what can be accomplished when a community pulls together.
